Thanks for the review! I barely played Prince of Persia myself but it came out when I got socialized with computer games, meaning I understand the constraints of the time. I am glad that you brought up the psychological element of the shadow - this was the one part of the game that I still remembered as special and deeper than just solving the puzzle.
I still remember, "as if it was yesterday", my brothers and I getting stuck on and eventually solving the level 12 puzzle. Maybe not as if it was yesterday, because I can't remember if it took us hours or maybe days to figure it out, but I do remember trying everything else (letting him kill us, pushing him off the edge, going around him) before finding the solution.
For more of the psychology, I really liked Mechner's talk. As far as I remember it's a lot more about the Jungian concept and Mehcner's personal experiences, but if that sounds interesting, Mechner is a great storyteller: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oyw6_G1lbvg
I've had multiple recommendations for the sequel, which I had just sort of binned with Disney sequels like Lion King 2 and Aladdin 2. I had a quick look at a speed run at some point, but it's full of clipping-through-walls sequence breaks. I'll see if I can find time to sit down with it some time.

Great write up for a great game! The sequel was also masterfully done. Albeit somewhat derivative
